Contemporary Western societies are characterized by a paradox: a social imperative to feel good corresponds with an alarming increase in states of mental distress. Burnout, anxiety, and depression as well as self-perceptions are increasingly based on a therapeutic view. In this book, internationally renowned scientists, among them Christina von Braun, Monica Greco, August Ruhs, and Paul Stenner, look into the question of how these developments are explained from transdisciplinary perspective.
