»Laicism Meets Freedom of Religion. A Comparative Study of the Constitutional Law on Religion of the French Third Republic and of the Weimar Republic« Julian W. Maerz examines the constitutional and philosophical roots of French laïcité and of the German »cooperative« relationship between the State and religious communities. Based on his findings, he points out similarities and differences between the current French and German constitutional law on religion, and he lays out a model for an integrative approach to issues of constitutional law on religion in European Union law.
