This volume contains the correspondence of the young Bettina Brentano up to the start of her marriage with Achim von Arnim in March of 1811. The period comprises 500 letters written by her and nearly 400 letters written to her. Of these, some 700 were taken from handwritten or printed originals; the rest were reconstructed from other sources.
